The Latest Twin Cities Snowfall Totals: MN Weather

Some cities will come closer to the original forecast than others, but most will fall considerably short.

MINNEAPOLIS — In the end, while significant, this week's snowstorm won't break any longstanding records. Some cities will come closer to the original forecast than others.

Official snowfall totals as of 6 a.m., according to the National Weather Service:

  • NWS office in Chanhassen: 12.5 inches
  • MSP: 10.1 inches
  • St. Cloud: 8.3 inches
  • Eau Claire: 9.8 inches

"The last band of snow will finish up by noon with additional accumulations of 1-3 inches," the NWS said.

The south metro will likely see around 20 inches of snow, including Apple Valley, noted Minnesota Public Radio meteorologist Sven Sundgaard.

Following the storm, temperatures will take a significant nosedive on Friday before warming up again on Saturday.

Here's the specific NWS forecast from the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport:

Thursday: Snow, mainly before 11am. High near 20. North wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around -6. Wind chill values as low as -16. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Friday: A 20 percent chance of snow after 5pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 11. Wind chill values as low as -19. West northwest wind around 5 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon.

Friday Night: A 20 percent chance of snow before 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 1. South southwest wind around 5 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 26. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 6. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 34. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east southeast in the afternoon.

Sunday Night: A chance of freezing rain before 2am, then a chance of snow and freezing rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. East southeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Monday: Snow and freezing rain likely before 10am, then rain and snow likely between 10am and 3pm, then a chance of snow after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. East wind 10 to 15 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 22. Blustery, with a west northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 34. West wind around 10 mph.

Tuesday Night: A 20 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east after midnight.

Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 34. East wind 10 to 15 mph.
