Huntington Park To Undergo Several Improvements This Spring, Summer

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Huntington Park in Columbia will undergo several improvements in the upcoming months including the addition of a basketball court, softball/baseball backstop, paved paths, a water fountain and park benches.

Huntington Park originally opened in 1986 and currently includes a basketball court, open field, paved path and a playground that includes two separate play areas. The smaller play area is geared toward 2- to 5-year-olds, while the larger area is designed for 5 to 12-year-olds. The playground also features a two-bay swing set and bonded, rubber safety surfacing.

“Huntington Park has beautifully evolved since 1986 when it first opened. In the years since, it’s become a staple for families from across our region who now call Columbia their home,” said Ball. “These improvements and expansion will help ensure that every person, of every ability, will have more access to our best amenities and facilities.”

In the next few months, Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will:

• Relocate the current basketball court
• Install a water fountain
• Create new pathways
• Put in a new backstop for softball and baseball games
• Add a connection to the existing playground
• Install brand new benches.

"Huntington Park has been our backyard for 30 years and the reason my family and I chose to move here,” said Wayne Davis, community member. “The improvements being made will increase accessibility and safety and add walking paths which are all incredibly important to our community."
