Chitty, Brand resign

A pair of South grads resigned their head coaching positions recently as Brent Chitty stepped down after 13 years at Columbus East and Eric Brand has left Southport after a five-year stay.

Chitty was 129-165 with the Olympians and 315-323 in 29 years overall, with previous stops at Owen Valley and Evansville Central. The 59-year-old told the Columbus Republic he plans to remain on as a physical education teacher and also started in the fall as a real estate broker with Bloomington's Stafford Realty.

Brand went 53-67 at Southport after a 26-1 run at South Bend Riley in 2018.

In a statement on his Twitter account, Brand said: "For the past 17 years from college to high school, I have put my heart into coaching. It has been awesome to able to invest in a lot of great players. I am now going to take the time to invest more into my own kids. I am excited to do some things with them that I have put off because of my schedule."
