UVA Men's Tennis Stays Hot With Wins Over Boston College and Harvard

After a brief lull in mid-February in which they lost three out of four matches all to top five opponents, the defending national champs are back in a groove. The No. 8 UVA men's tennis team has won each of its last nine matches and remained unbeaten in ACC play with a 6-1 win at Boston College on Friday before knocking off No. 13 Harvard 5-2 on Sunday afternoon in Cambridge. 

Friday: No. 8 Virginia 6, Boston College 1

UVA won each of the three doubles matches to clinch the doubles point and kept the momentum going in singles play, winning all but one of the singles courts. Inaki Montes and Ryan Goetz won their matches with relative ease on courts 1 and 3, while Jeffrey von der Schulenburg beat Juan Jose Bianchi 7-5, 6-3 on court 2. Man Dahlberg won a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6 match against Jake Vassel on court 4 and Alexander Kiefer won 6-3, 6-4 on court 5. 

Sunday: No. 8 Virginia 5, No. 13 Harvard 2

Virginia fell behind early as Harvard won the doubles point and Alexander Kiefer fell to Alan Yim 6-2, 6-4 on court 6 and the Crimson jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The Cavaliers responded well to the adversity, winning each of the next five singles matches to flip the script of the match. Jeffrey von der Schulenburg downed Daniel Milavsky 6-4, 7-5 on court 3 and No. 18 Chris Rodesch outlasted No. 20 Henry von der Schulenburg, the brother of UVA's Jeffrey von der Schulenburg, 6-2, 7-6 on the top court. Ryan Goetz defeated Ronan Jachuck 6-4, 7-5 on court 4 to give UVA a 3-2 lead and No. 39 Inaki Montes clinched the victory for Virginia with a 6-4, 6-4 win over No. 30 Harris Walker on court 2. Mans Dahlberg dropped the first set to Steven Sun on court 5, but bounced back to win 1-6, 7-5, 10-3 to cap the match. 

Now 17-4 overall and 8-0 in ACC play, Virginia has a week off before playing a pair of road matches at Wake Forest on April 7th and at NC State on April 9th. 

After falling at No. 13 Miami 6-1 on Friday in Coral Gables, the No. 9 UVA women's tennis team avoided going 0-2 on the weekend by winning a thrilling 4-3 match at Florida State on Sunday in Tallahassee. 

Virginia claimed the doubles point with wins on each of the three courts to start the match. Florida State answered with back-to-back straight-set wins on courts 2 and 3 before Sara Ziodato beat Mila Saric 6-4, 6-2 to even things up at 2-2. Natasha Subhash picked up a key win on the top court over No. 67 Anna Arkadianou, but the Seminoles evened things up again as Alice Amendola beat Melodie Collard 6-1, 7-6 on court 6. The fate of the match was left to court 4, where Elaine Chervinsky won a three-set thriller against Olympe Lancelot 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 to clinch the 4-3 win for Virginia. 

At 13-4 overall and 6-2 in the ACC, Virginia returns home for a pair of matches against Georgia Tech on Friday and Clemson on Sunday.
