PEAK TRAVEL DAY. IT’S WHEELS UP FOR SPRING BREAKERS AT MITCHELL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. A LITTLE WARM WEATHER GETTING AWAY FROM THE SNOW FRIDAY MORNING. FAMILIES LINED UP READY TO HEAD TO DESTINY. CHAINS LIKE MEXICO, FLORIDA AND ARIZONA UP SOME FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. I AM GOING TO ORLANDO, GO TO FLORIDA AT DISNEY WORLD. IS THIS YOUR FIRST TIME? YUP. AND IT IS MY FIRST TIME AT THE AIRPLANE. MITCHELL INTERNATIONAL SAYS THIS WEEKEND WILL BE THEIR BUSY LIST OF THE SPRING BREAK SEASON WITH 34 FLIGHTS TO WARM WEATHER DESTINATIONS ON SATURDAY ALONE. PARKING MAY BE AN ISSUE, SO THEY SUGGEST DOWNLOADING THEIR M.K SMART PARK APP TO MAKE A RESERVATION AHEAD OF TIME. PAINLESS. SO AND THEN WE DID THE VALET PARKING TOO, WHICH IS A PROBLEM. WE JUST DID THE REGISTRATION ONLINE AND IT WAS LIKE REALLY EASY TO DO. SO NO, IT’S BEEN EASY TO GET IN AND OUT OF HERE. WHILE TRAVELING THROUGH, MITCHELL IS USUALLY A BREEZE BECAUSE IT IS A SMALLER AIRPORT WITH OVER 12,000 PASSENGERS EXPECTED TO LEAVE ON FLIGHTS SATURDAY. OFFICIALS SUGGEST YOU GET HERE AT LEAST 2 HOURS BEFORE YOUR DEPARTURE TIME TO AVOID LINES. IT’S KIND OF QUIET HERE NOW. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE PROCESS? SO WE’RE GLAD WE’RE GOING TODAY. Mitchell International Airport expects Saturday, March 25 to be the busiest day of travel for the spring break season. The airport says more than 12,000 people will fly from MKE Saturday on 34 nonstop flights to warm weather hotspots. The top destinations are: Orlando (10 flights) Fort Myers (6 flights) Phoenix (6 flights) Tampa (5 flights) Fort Lauderdale (3 flights) Cancun, Mexico (2 flights) Sarasota (1 flight) Montego Bay, Jamaica (1 flight)New research also shows this may be the busiest spring break travel season ever. Trade group "Airlines for America," says 10 major airlines, including Delta, Southwest, and JetBlue, are expected to carry a record number of passengers this season.Though Mitchell International is usually easy to get through since it's a smaller airport, it's recommended you arrive at least two hours before your departure this weekend to make sure you have enough time to check bags and get through security.The airport says its biggest concern for travelers this weekend will be trouble finding parking. They recommend people download their MKE Smart Park app on their smartphones."We're encouraging folks to sign up for the Smart Park app so that they can reserve a spot at the airport, and they can earn loyalty points as well," said Harold Mester, Director of Public Affairs & Marketing for Mitchell International Airport. "They can also use their phone to scan in and out a lot when they arrive. Parking is definitely a big concern. We think we'll have enough spots, but we still encourage folks to make a reservation."Several school districts in the Milwaukee metro area are off for spring break next week, including Wauwatosa, Oak Creek Franklin, West Allis West Milwaukee, and Waukesha School Districts. The 12 News team caught up with some spring breakers from Arrowhead Union High School, boarding a flight to Puerto Vallarta in Mexico. "We're going on a senior trip," said Arrowhead senior Emma Ott. "There's 16 other kids and their parents going.
