DeKalb County police investigate a shooting at the Artesian East Village apartments on Bouldercrest Road on Thursday morning.

Two children, ages 6 and 7, were hospitalized early Thursday after being shot inside a residence in Gresham Park, authorities said.

DeKalb County police responded around 2 a.m. to the Artesian East Village apartment complex in the 1500 block of Bouldercrest Road, where officers found the children suffering from non-fatal gunshot wounds. The two victims were taken to a hospital in stable condition, police said.

According to police, the children were struck by gunfire after a suspect shot into a residence and fled the scene. The shooter has not been identified.

While police have not publicly identified the children, a man at the complex told Channel 2 Action News they were his son and niece. He said a man shot at their home about 15 times and he returned fire, according to the news station.

“We just got caught up in some of them devils attacking my family,” he added.
