Multiple upcoming road closures around West Lafayette approved this week

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. − Multiple upcoming closures around West Lafayette were approved at the West Lafayette Board of Public Works and Safety this week.

Street and alley closures

Purdue's Latino Cultural Center requested that the alley between University and Waldron streets, south of 5th Street, be closed for a Dia de la Familia event on Saturday.

The alley will be closed from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday to allow for the event.

Members of the West Lafayette Board of Public Works and Safety meet on March 28, 2023.

Dia de la Familia will take place from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Latino Cultural Center.

"On April 11th, 2003, the Latino Cultural Center opened its doors at Purdue University," the event's description says on the center's website said. "Since then, every year, we recognize our history and communities with a celebration that gathers our familias and makes us reflect on our accomplishments and look toward the future. 

"Join us to celebrate our 20th anniversary at this year's Dia de la Familia. Live performances, family-friendly activities, food and much more."

From 6 a.m. to midnight on April 21, 5th Street - University to Waldron streets - southbound to the rear of 426 Waldron St. will be closed for a Spring Lu'au.

Multiple intersection closures

The City of West Lafayette engineering department requested the closures of multiple intersections from March 27-April 6.

The following intersections will be closed with their accompanying dates:

  • Monday, March 27/Tuesday, March 28 – Flagging traffic on Grant Street
  • Wednesday, March 29 – Sylvia Street closed at Grant
  • Thursday, March 30 – Stadium Avenue closed at Grant
  • Monday, April 3/Tuesday, April 4 – Evergreen Street closed at Grant
  • Thursday, April 6 – Meridian Street closed at Grant
  • Wednesday, April 5 – Flagging traffic on Grant Street

According to a memo to the Board, these closures will allow for storm sewer installations to take place.
