The Lehigh County coroner identified two men shot and killed Friday during a confrontation over car break-ins on an Allentown street.

Yovanni Suazo, 21, and Alexander Perez-Sotomayor, 42, both from Allentown, were pronounced dead early Friday in the 100 Block of East South Street, Coroner Daniel Buglio said.

Autopsies were completed Monday, and the manners of death were ruled homicides. Suazo died from a gunshot wound to his body, and Perez-Sotomayor died from multiple gunshot wounds to his body, the coroner said.

Perez-Sotomayor was the homeowner who confronted Yovanni Suazo and another man, First Assistant District Attorney Gavin Holihan said.

Police have said people were trying to open the doors of parked cars in 100 block of East South Street when Perez-Sotomayor confronted them. Perez-Sotomayor and Suazo started firing, according to police.

Allentown police found the two men suffering from gunshot wounds at about 1:30 a.m. Officers started giving first aid, but they died, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and at this point there is no determination that Suazo committed or attempted to commit any theft from a vehicle, Holihan said.

The deaths are being investigated by the coroner, Allentown police and the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force, with assistance from the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
