1 injured in drive-by shooting in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood

Officers found a 34-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the back of her head.

SEATTLE — Police said a woman was shot in the back of her head in a drive-by shooting overnight in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood.

The Seattle Police Department (SPD) said a woman was injured in a drive-by shooting at about 1:30 a.m. at 2nd Avenue and Vine Street. Officers found a 34-year-old woman with a grazing gunshot wound to the back of her head.

The victim told police she was in the passenger seat of her friend's vehicle when she heard a "loud pop" sound. That's when she immediately began to bleed from the back of her head.

Police said the woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said the victim or her friend did not know where the gunshots came from. Officers found a possible bullet entry point in the rear window of the vehicle and a possible bullet fragment hole in the passenger side headrest.

A witness said she heard four shots and noticed a "significant number" of people running away from the scene.

Authorities asked the public to call the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000 with any information on the shooting.
