New Jersey is expected to see heavy rain and a wintry mix Friday night, with the potential for coastal flooding.

Storm Watch Team meteorologists say that areas of northern New Jersey in higher elevations might see some snow.

WHAT’S NEXT: Substantial rains will lead to localized flooding Friday night into Saturday morning. Snow melt and at least an inch of rain will push puddles further into streets. Ponding will be a potential problem as the rain becomes steadier and stronger throughout the evening.

Wind gusts could approach 45 mph so rain will be falling in sheets and sideways at times. Visibility will be limited. Thunder and lightning are likely, but severe weather is not expected at this time.

OVERNIGHT: Some clouds with overnight lows around 34 degrees.

FRIDAY: Cloudy in the morning. Rain begins in the afternoon and becomes heavier by the night. Daytime highs around 46 degrees. Overnight lows around 42.

SATURDAY: Rain lasts into the morning, followed by clouds by the afternoon. Daytime highs around 48 and overnight lows around 34.

SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy with temperatures around 50 degrees. Overnight lows around 35.
