The Mt. Carmel Police Department is asking the public to be more careful in not calling 911 by accident.
The department posted on its Facebook page Tuesday the problem seems to be worsening. In August, Wabash County 911 received 94 accidental calls. They came from a child playing with a phone, open lines, hang-ups, or a misdial.
It says these calls resulted in approximately 20 hours of officers and deputies responding to and confirming everything was secure.
Officers say if you call 911 by accident, stay on the line and provide your name and address so they can quickly confirm everything is okay.
