The Sims 4 has announced that bunk beds are finally coming to the game.

Bunk beds have been a hugely-requested item for years, and so it was no surprise the reveal – which happened at the end of a live stream marking the 21st birthday for the franchise – was met with excitement from fans.

The developers confirmed that bunk beds will be free for everyone and added to the base game in late March.

In addition, as part of the 21st birthday celebrations, 21 new items were added in this week's free update, which is available to download now.

Nine creators from the community – HeyHarrie, storylegacysims, peachyfaerie, Luumia, icemunmun, grimcookies, peacemaker_ic, FeralPoodles, and AHarris00Britney – designed these items.

The additions include fresh furniture, clothing, and make-up, plus food such as palak paneer and butter chicken dishes.

A look at the new items can be found in the official blog post as well as the below Instagram video post:

This free update is the latest example of the Sims team reaching out to and collaborating with community members.

EA and Maxis worked with several people in the community including EbonixSims and Xmiramira on the updated skin tones, while builders such as lilsimsie, Deligracy, and Doctor Ashley contributed official lots for Snowy Escape and the Paranormal Stuff Pack.

As for the bunk beds, signs have been pointing towards their inclusion in the game for more than a year now.

In January 2020, the developer said they considered both bunk beds and ladders for the Tiny Living Stuff Pack (ladders eventually arrived in June). Then in July, bunk beds were added to The Sims Mobile.

The Sims 4 is available now on PC, Mac, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
