Wildfire Risks Rising With Lack Of Rain In Area

The Wisconsin DNR is urging campers to use extra caution this holiday weekend when dealing with camp fires.

It’s been over a week since much of the area has seen rain, and humidity levels have been way below normal for this time of year. As a result, most of the state is in the moderate
to high categories for wildfire threats and with no rain forecasted, that threat could rise higher by early next week.

Marc Sass with the Wisconsin DNR said the state’s residents start 98% of forest fires.

The DNR recommends that fires be kept in a fire pit, away from surrounding vegetation and have a water source nearby incase the fire does get out of
control. Also make sure camp fires are completely out before retiring for the night.
