Drone video shows severe damage by tornado in Palm Beach Gardens, North Palm Beach

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado with a rating of EF-2 touched down in Palm Beach Gardens on Saturday evening, causing damage in that city and nearby North Palm Beach.

The Sanctuary Cove apartment complex in North Palm Beach near Prosperity Farms and Monet Road sustained much of the tornado's damage, which occurred around 5 p.m. Saturday. EF-2 tornadoes have wind gusts up to 130 mph.

The tornado left widespread damage in Sanctuary Cove, ripping the roof off one building and snapping trees in the complex. North Palm Beach village workers were out cleaning up damage early Sunday, including boats that had been upended from their moorings.

On Friday evening, a damaging tornado touched down in Boynton Beach, the National Weather Service reported.

The tornado, which was rated EF-0, with winds between 65 and 85 miles per hour, happened around Southwest 23rd Avenue and Interstate 95 around 7:35 p.m.

Drivers on the interstate stopped in the middle of traffic and others pulled over as debris swirled above cars, according to accounts on social media and a video submitted to The Palm Beach Post. Earlier that day, the weather service warned of strong wind and possible hail across much of central and coastal Palm Beach County.
