Carol Grubaugh, executive director of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce, and Mount Vernon Mayor Matt Starr were in attendance to honor a milestone moment for the local business. Starr noted Dean’s has been around since before he was born and called the store’s growth “a great sign for Mount Vernon.”

A true family business, Dean’s Jewelry has been a fixture in the Mount Vernon and Coshocton communities since Dean Turner opened his first store in Coshocton in 1965. Dean’s son, Tim, took over in 1991 and opened the original Mount Vernon location in 2007. It was a much-needed second storefront for the bustling business.

Keeping the store in Mount Vernon was important to the Turners. Since taking the helm in 2014, Michelle and Noah said they have fallen in love with the community. They hope to honor their legacy by maintaining roots in a place that, as Michelle puts it, “shares our family’s values.” In a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony, she expressed that Mount Vernon is “full of kind people.”

The jewelers’ future storefront will be located right across the street from the current location on Coshocton Avenue. Once completed, the new building will be highly visible, accessible and – most importantly – bigger. A larger store makes it possible for the Dean’s team to offer more services and more jewelry. At the groundbreaking, an excited Michelle shared the new store “will feature custom design, as well as a larger selection of diamonds, gemstones and vintage pieces.”

Following the groundbreaking event, the Dean’s team invited friends, family and supporters to a reception at the current storefront, where guests mingled and celebrated the occasion with light refreshments.
