With COVID-19 public health emergency ending, Maine CDC website to stop updating vaccination numbers

May 5—The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention is scaling back information about COVID-19 vaccine uptake on its website, a move that comes just before the end of federal public health emergency on May 11.

"The site will focus on providing vaccine, testing and treatment information for COVID-19. Vaccination remains the best protection against the most serious effects of COVID-19," Jackie Farwell, a spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, said in a statement.

The Maine Vaccination Dashboard will no longer be updated, but vaccination data from December 2020 to April 18, 2023 will remain available. The dashboard shows 78% of Maine people received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The Maine CDC will continue to update its COVID-19 case data dashboard.

The COVID-19 website will continue to have information about testing and treatment options.

Maine's first case of COVID-19 was recorded in March 2020, and the state has reported more than 322,000 cases, 3,028 deaths and 7,423 hospitalizations through May 2, 2023.
