Alex Rodriguez recently got some eye opening news about his mouth.
The former Yankees player told CBS Mornings Wednesday that he was diagnosed with early-stage gum disease, a type of gingivitis.
“Looks can be deceiving,” Rodriguez told the media outlet after being complimented on his smile.

ARod is now raising awareness about the issue as well as talking about the overall importance of maintaining your pearly whites.
The single father of two says the disease, also called periodontitis or periodontal disease, is more common than he first realized; more than 65 million Americans also have it.
If left untreated, Rodriguez’s condition can cause frequent infections, loose teeth and even oral cancer.
“Viewers at home, it’s always better to be safe,” said the Coral Gables resident. “Go see your local dentist.”
