Suspect Arrested On Murder Charge In Killing Of Bridgeport Man: PD
The 58-year-old victim was shot and killed on April 12 in Bridgeport, according to authorities.
BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 23-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the April 12 shooting death of 58-year-old Bridgeport resident Michael Gaines, according to police.
Nelson Perez was taken into custody Thursday morning by members of the Bridgeport Police Department’s Homicide Squad, assisted by the Connecticut State Police Violent Crime Task Force-Bridgeport.
Perez is accused of shooting Gaines near the intersection of East Main and Arctic streets in front of Shorty's Deli, in what police referred to at the time as a "targeted" killing.

In addition to murder, Perez was also charged with criminal possession of a firearm, and illegal discharge of a firearm.
Perez is being held in lieu of bail of $2 million, and he is scheduled to be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on Friday.

"This arrest is the result of a combined investigative effort by members of the Bridgeport Police Department’s Homicide Squad, BPD Fusion Center, BPD Forensic Identification Unit, and the States Attorney’s Office. Homicide Detective Tom Harper is the lead investigator," said Bridgeport Police Capt. Kevin Gilleran in a statement.
