Music, food, vendors, barrel event slated for Greensburg Fire Department Party in the Park
Live music, food and kids’ games will be featured on Saturday when the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department kicks off the Memorial Day holiday weekend by hosting a Party in the Park.
Admission is free for the event at Greensburg’s St. Clair Park.
It’s intended as an alternative to the usual Greensburg Community Days festivities at Lynch Field, canceled this year because of renovation work at the Kirk S. Nevin Arena.
“We try to be involved in a lot of different things in the community,” said fire department President Rick Steele.
Events will begin at noon with a battle of the barrel competition among teams of local firefighters on an Academy Hill street near the Greensburg Salem Middle School. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.
Activities at the park are scheduled from 1 to 9 p.m., including more than two dozen vendor booths offering items ranging from crafts and candles to jewelry, beef jerky and sweets.
The fire department will have items for sale.
Artists will provide face painting and caricature sketches. Attendees also can visit the Moxie Events station to take a selfie.
An array of food trucks will offer fare including sausages, meatballs, tacos, hot dogs, sandwiches, kettle corn, flavored ice and ice cream.
An area will be set aside for those seeking alcohol. In addition to an Engine 6 beer tent, libations will be available from Salem Spirits and Laurel Highlands Meadery.
Kids can try their luck at small carnival games and stop at a candy table from 1 to 5 p.m.
Officers from three local fire departments and city and county police forces will take a chance on getting wet in a dunk tank from 2 to 6 p.m.
Music will ring out from the park’s Robertshaw Amphitheater from 3 to 9 p.m. Set to perform are: Walk of Shame, at 3 p.m.; Amanda James, at 5:30 p.m.; and the Andy Davis Band, at 7 p.m.
Attendees can enter a basket raffle and 50/50 prize drawings.
