Coronavirus: India reports 906 new cases, active caseload declines to 10,179

Heart transplant recipients receiving organs from active Covid-19 positive donors may have an increased risk of death at six months and one year when compared to those receiving organs from people who recovered from the infectious disease, according to a study.

"These early trends should be concerning enough such that heart transplantation centres need to thoroughly evaluate and continue to weigh the risks/benefits of using hearts from active Covid-19 donors," said lead author Shivank Madan, cardiologist at the Center for Advanced Cardiac Therapy at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.

India witnessed a single-day rise of 906 new COVID-19 cases as the active cases declined to 10,179, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

The toll has risen to 5,31,814 (5.31 lakh) with 20 deaths, including seven reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The daily positivity rate has been pegged at 0.70 per cent and the weekly rate at 0.90 per cent.

According to the health ministry's website, 220.66 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,44,39,965 while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.18 per cent.

The total tally of Covid cases was recorded at 4.49 crore (4,49,83,152). Active cases now comprise 0.03 per cent of the total infections while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.79 per cent, according to the health ministry website.

The death toll has increased to 5,31,794 with four more fatalities, including two reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

India saw a single-day rise of 1,021 Covid infections while active cases have decreased to 11,393 from 13,037 a day earlier, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.
