When a hurricane is approaching the North Carolina coast, it's not usually safe to be outside. But we all want to see what's happening. These livestream cameras along the Wilmington coast allow viewers to watch the impacts storms may have on the area. Hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30.

Wilmington

This camera at The George on the downtown Riverwalk gives a view of the Cape Fear River, as well as the Battleship North Carolina and Cape Fear Memorial Bridge. The George is located at 128 S. Water St. in Wilmington.

Kure Beach

Located on the Kure Beach Fishing Pier at 100 Atlantic Avenue, this camera periodically changes angles, showing viewers the pier, waves and surrounding beach. The Kure Beach stream is run by Surfchex, a company founded in Wrightsville Beach.

Holden Beach

Set atop the Hobbs Realty office at 114 Ocean Blvd. West in Holden Beach, this camera shows the beach's conditions in real time. According to Hobbs' website, dolphins can occasionally be seen on the stream frolicking in the Atlantic.

North Topsail Beach

This view of Topsail Beach from its Seaview Fishing Pier allows beachgoers to monitor conditions. The pier is located at 124 Fishing Pier Lane in Sneads Ferry.

Frying Pan Tower

Frying Pan Tower is located some 34 miles off the Atlantic coast. The tower was built in 1964 to help ships avoid running aground in the shallow waters there, known as the Frying Pan Shoals. Dubbed "Frying Pan Cam," the tower's camera offers a view from the ocean, rather than just one of it.

Wrightsville Beach

Pointed at the Intracoastal Waterway, a camera showing the view from Bluewater Waterfront Grill allows viewers to watch the boats docked or sailing by. Several other cameras allow viewers to take in different parts of the beach strand.

Surf City

There are several cameras available in and around Surf City, including this Surfchex stream at the Surf City Ocean Pier that pans to show the beach north and south of the pier. The Surf City Ocean Pier is located at 112 S. Shore Drive in Surf City.

Southport

Located on Fishy Fishy Cafe at 106 Yacht Basin Drive in Southport, this camera allows viewers to check conditions and a view of the water.

Ocean Isle Beach

This camera set up at Ocean Isle Inn allows the viewer to control the camera, navigating between eight separate views, ranging from looking on the Ocean Isle Beach Fishing Pier from afar to glancing at the inn's amenities or, of course, watching the beach strand.

Carolina Beach

As in neighboring Kure Beach, Surfchex has set a camera up at Carolina Beach Fishing Pier.

Sunset Beach

This camera offers three views of Sunset Beach, one focusing on the Sunset Beach March and two others on the beach strand. Viewers can toggle between the cameras depending on their area of interest.
