Best home security systems in 2024

Our experts have tested the best home security systems on the market so you don’t have to guess which one is right for your home

Smart home security systems have become a popular way to improve security and privacy in recent years with packages including everything from motion detectors, outdoor security cameras and smart locks to surveillance technology that can protect a house when intruders are detected – but which one is right for you? SimpliSafe’s The Tower is our Editor’s Choice and is well suited for the average three-bed home, while ADT’s Smart Home Alarm package comes with professional monitoring and the Surveillance Kit from Hey! is best for budget, thanks to it’s high quality combined with value-for-money features.

We’ve analysed what to consider when choosing a smart home security system to compare the best packages on the market that balance both security and budget.

Before we get into our recommendations, we’ve answered your top three questions about smart home security systems.

SimpliSafe’s The Tower package is Independent Advisor’s pick. It gives you good all-round protection at a reasonable price. RRP is around £500, but we’ve negotiated a discount for you.

Some systems are designed to be self-installed, while others require professional installation, either from the manufacturer or a local tradesperson. Our comprehensive installation guide makes setting up your system easy.

Professional monitoring (for a monthly fee) is the way to go for complete peace of mind. However, self-monitoring is possible via an app and is more cost effective.

SimpliSafe The Tower: Editor’s Choice

simplisafe the tower kit unpacked
SimpliSafe’s The Tower kit comes with a base station, keypad, two entry sensors, a motion sensor, one outdoor camera, and one indoor camera (Independent Advisor)

Key specifications

Cost: £514.93 (Get 40% off with code UKINDY40 at checkout)   | Components: 1 base station, 1 keypad, 2 entry sensors, 1 motion sensor, 1 outdoor camera, and 1 indoor camera | Power source: Battery powered | Connectivity: Cellular (with paid-for subscription) and wifi | Maximum volume:105dB | Smart home support: Amazon Echo/Alexa and Google Assistant/Google Home | Backup battery: Yes, up to 24 hours | Monitored: Self-monitoring with optional paid-for professional monitoring

Pros

Good range of components included but is also highly customisable Easy DIY installation

Cons

High initial outlay

Who’s it right for?

  • Most households looking for a comprehensive and flexible security system

Who is it not for?

  • Buyers on very limited budgets

SimpliSafe offers a range of preconfigured packages, all of which can be fully customised to suit your requirements. For the average three-bedroom semi-detached property, The Tower needs no additional components and is ready to go once the base station is plugged in, combining internal and external cameras, a motion detector, door and window sensors, and an integrated keypad. While The Tower is one of its pricier options, SimpliSafe frequently has steep product discounts, making options, such as this package more affordable.

Simplisafe users can choose between self-monitoring or professional monitoring, with two flexible monitoring plans available starting at 53p per day.

Installation

We found the peel and stick sensors incredibly straightforward to install, with no drilling required and comprehensive connectivity instructions. The system was also easy to set up using the dedicated app.

The hardware is sleek and stylish, available in obsidian or white, and incorporates a stylishly contemporary pear-shaped base station. This glows with a steady blue light, and pulses if there is an error in the system.

System app

With the SimpliSafe app, you can access and control your security system remotely via user-friendly smartphone or tablet interfaces. The app allows you to arm or disarm your system, view live camera feeds, and receive instant notifications in the case of a security event. The system uses end-to-end encryption to protect data, ensuring personal information and video feeds remain secure and private.

All of Simplisafe’s packages are compatible with smart home ecosystems Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. This allows you to control your security system using voice commands.

While the indoor camera lacks the ability to pan or zoom, with a 120-degree lens it already covers an expansive area. Both the picture quality and sound are easily distinguishable, and even the night vision is clear. The motion detection uses heat signatures to differentiate between a pet, a person and an object (a thrown ball, for example), minimising false alarms.

If you take out one of the monthly subscription plans, you’ll benefit from the 24/7 professional monitoring. In case of any security concerns, with the more advanced monitoring package the SimpliSafe monitoring centre is notified, and they can dispatch emergency services to your location.

Our verdict

While SimpliSafe’s The Tower package provides an excellent home security solution, the initial cost may be prohibitive for some homeowners. However, considering the monitoring plans’ quality, features, and flexibility, we believe it is a worthwhile investment in the long run.

Alternatively, The Essentials package from Simplisafe offers a smaller, more affordable package, which can either be used as it comes (ideal for smaller homes) or expanded, personalised and adapted, so every penny spent on home security suits your home and requirements.

Verisure: Best bespoke package

versure home security system product photo
(Verisure)

Key specifications

Cost: Price on enquiry (£299-£599 typical cost) | Components: Various | Power source: Mains | Connectivity: Wifi, Ethernet, 4G SIM | Maximum volume: 105db | Smart home support: Amazon Echo/Alexa and Google Home/Google Assistant | Backup battery: Yes | Monitored: Self-monitoring or professional (£32/month)

Pros

Tailored for your your home Great customer experience

Cons

Can be expensive

Who’s it right for?

  • Those looking for a fully bespoke system

Who is it not for?

  • Users wanting an off-the-shelf package

Verisure has everything you’d expect from a smart home security system, as well as some trademark features like its ZeroVision alarm that can release a ‘fog’ designed to deter burglars. It’s important to note though, that this feature can only be activated by a professional at the NSI certified Alarm Receiving Centre.

Verisure has a partnership with Arlo cameras which have good quality video, two-way audio, night vision, and sirens. Everything can be managed through the Verisure app and, for £32 a month, Verisure will monitor your home.

Installation

Although installation is included in the price, the jump off package starts at around £599, which is pretty steep when compared to other systems of similar scope. Add-ons can be discussed and costed with the technician on the day of the evaluation, which you need to book over the phone. You’ll also need to pay a £100 (fully refundable) deposit to book.

Although it can seem like an extra, unnecessary step for someone to come to your house for an assessment, it does mean that you will get a tailored package and a full rundown of how everything works so that you get the best use out of it.

Maintenance is covered in the subscription fee, so if anything breaks it will get repaired asap so you don’t lose any surveillance. Likewise any batteries will also get replaced automatically when they reach 30 per cent, and these can be changed in as little as half an hour once a technician is round, but you will get notified when this needs to happen. It’s this level of detail that scores Verisure top marks on TrustPilot, so whether Verisure is worth it, really depends on your home’s needs and budget.

Verdict

Verisure’s security offering is among the strongest here and it has an excellent record of fitting custom security systems, according to customer reviews and is our pick for the best bespoke home security system service.

ADT Smart Home Alarm Package: Best professional monitoring

ADT home security system components on kitchen worktop
(ADT)

Key specifications

Cost: Tailored quote, installation £199.00, annual subscriptions start from £35.99 for maintained cover | Components: 1 ADT bell box, 1 Smart Home hub, 1 wireless door contact, 2 motion sensors, plus choose from three additional options: wifi camera, video doorbell or both | Power source: Battery | Connectivity: Wifi and GPRS  | Maximum volume: N/A | Smart home support: Amazon Echo / Alexa and Google Home / Google Assistant | Backup battery: Yes | Monitored: Professional monitoring

Pros

Remote engineering in the event of a fault High quality components

Cons

Professional installation only High monthly costs

Who’s it right for?

  • Users who require professional monitoring

Who is it not for?

  • Homeowners on a budget

ADT has been a trusted name in home security for many years, and its Smart Home Alarm Package demonstrates its commitment to evolving with modern technology. This comprehensive security system combines traditional ADT reliability with smart home features.

Although we tested the Smart Home Alarm Package, like many security systems, the company’s accessories and packages can be fully tailored to your requirements with additional elements incorporated into the system.

It features a touchscreen control panel that serves as the command centre for your system, and allows you to arm and disarm the system, control smart home devices, and view live video feeds from the cameras. With an 8MP camera incorporated, it automatically captures a picture of the last person who disabled your alarm.

System app

The ADT+ App allows you to manage your home security remotely, and the security company plans to integrate controls for third-party smart home products that use Matter, enabling control of compatible smart lights, thermostats and other smart technologies.

With efficient contact sensors to detect when entry points are opened or closed, passive infrared (PIR) motion detectors that sense movement and ignore any household pets, and a wireless key fob that includes a panic button for emergencies, ADT appears to have every base covered.

Installation

The security system is designed for professional installation, ensuring it’s set up correctly and functioning optimally. Upon purchase, ADT will schedule a technician to visit your home and install the devices. This process may take a few hours, depending on the size and complexity of your home.

ADT offers 24/7 phone support, email support, and live chat, in addition to their online help centre, but our researchers found the customer support team didn’t always know the answers to our questions and took up to 10 minutes to get through. The live chat provided quicker responses.

Your standard subscription includes access to the ADT Remote Operating Centre, which automatically conducts daily system checks, ensuring every device runs optimally. Most technical issues can be dealt with remotely. Depending on the subscription level you choose, you, your keyholders, the police, or a private security guard will be notified in the event of a security breach.

Our verdict

The ADT Smart Home Alarm Package offers an advanced security solution that combines home automation and comprehensive protection. While the higher cost and long-term contract may be a drawback, the system’s reliability, professional installation, and seamless integration with smart home platforms makes it an attractive choice for those looking for a high-quality and professionally monitored home security solution.

Hey! Surveillance Kit: Best for budget

pink and green boxes of home security system with camera and video doorbell
(Hey!)

Key specifications

Cost: £149.99 | Components: 1 motion sensor, 1 doorbell video, and 1 outdoor camera | Power source: Battery | Connectivity: Wifi | Maximum volume: N/A | Smart home support: Amazon Echo/Alexa and Google Home/Google Assistant | Backup battery: No | Monitored: Self-monitoring

Pros

Good value Simple to use and set up

Cons

No backup battery

Who’s it right for?

  • Homeowners looking for a budget security system

Who is it not for?

  • Larger properties with lots of windows

The Hey! Surveillance Kit offers a basic, but good value, home security system which includes a doorbell video and a weatherproof outdoor camera. Both feature motion sensors, full HD live video streaming, two-way communication, and automatic night vision. However, like many smart security systems, more components can be added if required.

Installation

The system is simple to install using the manual and instructional videos, requiring very little time or effort, and, with direct router-to-device connectivity, there’s no need for a separate home hub.

System app

The mobile app interface takes a while to navigate, but it includes everything you need to manage your system, such as adjusting the motion sensor range and dimming the floodlights. Live HD video streamed directly to the app allows for simple self-monitoring, while the two-way communication can be accessed from anywhere via your mobile phone. The app also features playback of recorded clips and instant notifications of any unusual activity the system detects.

The Surveillance Kit offers cloud and local storage options for your video footage, giving you flexibility in managing your data.

Our verdict

The Hey! Surveillance Kit provides homeowners with an affordable option for home security and is a great option as a starter kit. While it doesn’t have the capabilities of bigger, more expensive systems, what it does offer is effective and easy to manage. If you do choose to expand your Hey! Security measures, the range is very budget friendly with extra motion sensors coming in at under £22 and cameras under £50.

Ring Alarm and Indoor Camera Pack: Best for DIY installation

Best home security systems Ring indoor camera
(Ring)

Key specifications

Cost: £269.98 | Components: 1 base station, 1 keypad (2nd gen), 1 contact sensor (2nd gen), 1 motion detector (2nd gen), 1 range extender (2nd gen), and 1 indoor camera | Power source: Battery, although hub and camera need to be plugged in | Connectivity: Wifi | Maximum volume: N/A | Smart home support: Amazon Echo/Alexa | Backup battery: Yes | Monitored: Self-monitoring with optional paid-for professional monitoring

Pros

Numerous setup options Affordable subscription rate

Cons

Night vision lacks clarity

Who’s it right for?

  • Small properties

Who is it not for?

  • Large properties with expansive gardens

Ring is one of the leading brands in smart home security and is well known for its innovative doorbell cameras and other security devices. The five-piece Alarm and Indoor Cam Pack offers a mid-priced system that’s ideal for smaller homes, but it can easily be expanded with other Ring products. You can also integrate the system with other Ring smart home devices, such as locks, thermostats, and lights, for a fully connected experience.

The pack includes the Ring Indoor Camera, which offers full HD video quality, live view, night vision, and two-way audio, allowing you to communicate with anyone in your home. The camera also has motion detection, customisable privacy settings, and integration with Amazon Alexa for voice commands.

Installation

Setting up the Ring Alarm system was surprisingly easy. The package comes with detailed instructions, and there is also an installation video available on the Ring website. The process takes around thirty minutes, and the devices can be easily mounted using the included adhesive strips or screws, depending on your preference. They also offer a professional installation service to be purchased via Amazon.

The motion detector has adjustable sensitivity settings, which helps minimise false alarms from pets or other small movements, and the inclusion of the range extender means that the wireless signal between the base station and any other Ring devices is maintained throughout your home.

System app

The system also integrates seamlessly with the Ring mobile app, which allows you to monitor and control the security system remotely.

An optional Ring Protect Plus subscription covers all your home devices and allows access to its 24/7 Assisted Monitoring. Among other things, this sends alerts to your emergency contacts if your burglar alarm is triggered.

Our verdict

The Ring Alarm system offers a user-friendly, customisable home security solution for homeowners seeking to protect their property. With optional subscription services and the availability of additional Ring devices, the system can be tailored to meet each household’s specific needs.

Although this system is ideal for small properties, adding more components to cover a larger home could mean that it’s more cost-effective to purchase a more extensive system from the start.

Arlo Essential Flat and Apartment Security Kit

Pros

User-friendly app

Cons

Limited free features Battery, cellular and solar backup costs extra

Who’s it right for?

  • Best for apartments and flats

Who is it not for?

  • Homeowners with large, expansive properties

Arlo’s catalogue features an extensive suite of outdoor and indoor, doorbell, and floodlight cameras, all of which carry a high-end price tag.

This compact security system is ideal for apartments and other properties with one entrance. The outdoor camera is designed to keep watch over entry points and the approach to the property, while the indoor camera, incorporating a built-in privacy shield, secures the living spaces.

Arlo devices provide strong, smart home integration capabilities, supporting Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit. This is a standard feature in the industry, with rivals such as Ring and SimpliSafe providing similar integration.

Arlo’s packages include installation hardware, including screws, wall mounts, USB cables and comprehensive instructions, ideal for the amateur DIYer.

Positioning itself as a security camera supplier, Arlo’s product range primarily consists of visual and audio equipment without the inclusion of any sensors, and this system would, we feel, benefit from the addition of at least one sensor. Professional monitoring services are unavailable, with subscription users responsible for self-monitoring despite the higher cost of the kit.

Arlo’s offerings are high quality, engineered for simple setup, and deliver a comprehensive yet compact home security solution.

Eufy 5-Piece Home Alarm Kit

Pros

Good customer reviews 6-year battery backup

Cons

No cameras

Who’s it right for?

  • Homeowners who want to expand an existing system

Who is it not for?

  • Users who are looking for a complete pre-built package

Eufy is a recent entrant in the home security industry and offers several security packages, with the option to buy more components as needed. Unlike many competitors, Eufy lacks a professional monitoring service. However, customers can oversee their home security system through a dedicated app.

The Eufy 5-Piece Home Alarm Kit is limited in its equipment offerings, which is reflected in its price tag compared to other home security systems. Eufy suggests its package is suitable for small to large homes, but from our research, it’s apparent that larger residences may require additional purchases, such as cameras and video doorbells. However, these can be purchased separately and easily incorporated into the system.

The keypad can last up to six years on a single charge, making it convenient for homeowners who are away for extended periods.

The app features an easy-to-follow interface, allowing remote arming and disarming, optimised security modes, and video viewing capabilities. Instant notifications inform users when sensors and cameras are activated, allowing appropriate actions to be taken.

In summary, the Eufy Home Alarm Kit presents a cost-effective security solution that can be added to an existing camera surveillance system. This adaptability makes Eufy a favourable option for homeowners who want a personalised system covering several entrance points.

Who’s it right for?

  • Airbnbs and holiday property owners

Who is it not for?

  • Homeowners who want a voice controlled smart home

Holiday rentals and Airbnbs have unique security requirements – frequent short-term guests unfamiliar with the property, letting themselves in and navigating the space, sometimes after nightfall. Wyze has designed a security system specifically for these properties.

Wyze’s Lock Bolt allows you to create automatically expiring access codes, preventing guests from accessing the property after a given period, with the lock history recorded in the app. The Doorbell Pro video captures movement in the door’s vicinity, offers two-way communication, and will contact the host if necessary. With the option to pre-record a message and a dual-band wifi extender to ensure instant notifications, Wyze has designed a tempting option for Airbnb hosts.

Departing guests can forget to turn off the coffee maker, lamps, or TV; however, the Wyze plug means you can switch appliances off remotely, potentially lessening your energy bills. And if your guests arrive after dark, the three motion-detection night lights can be linked together to light a path – particularly helpful for stairs or nighttime visits to the bathroom.

Installation is quick and easy, even for DIY novices, with all the necessary fixing components included.

In the UK, Wyze only offers self-monitoring, and there’s no access to Google Assistant or Alexa, which our researchers hope Wyze will address in the near future.

Wyze has produced a security system with the holiday rental sector in mind and has considered everything for both the host and incoming guests at a reasonable price. However, it would be an even better option if UK customers could access Alexa and Google Assistant.

How much should you pay for a smart home security system?

The cost of a smart home security system can vary greatly depending on the brand, features, components, and level of professional monitoring you choose. Prices can be anywhere from around £150 for a self-monitored, self-installed system, to several hundred pounds with ongoing monthly costs for a professionally installed and monitored home security system.

What to consider when buying a smart home security system

When buying a smart home security system, you should consider the following factors to find the right solution for your needs.

  • Consider your requirements: Think about your property’s size, entry points and any potential vulnerabilities to help determine the type of system you require and what additional features are necessary, such as motion detectors and smart locks
  • Smart device compatibility: If you already have smart home devices, such as lighting, thermostats and voice assistants, a system that’s compatible with those would help to create an integrated environment
  • Installation requirements: Some systems can be easily installed with basic DIY knowledge, while others may require professional installation. Decide if you’re comfortable fitting the system yourself or would rather pay someone to do it
  • Monitoring type: A self-monitored system requires a mobile app with a user-friendly interface, allowing responsive notifications and alerts and easy system management. Professionally monitored systems typically include a monthly subscription, which can be costly but provides a higher level of protection for your home
  • Budget: Decide on the budget for your system, which should factor in the cost of the devices, installation, and any ongoing subscription fees for monitoring or cloud storage

What do smart home security systems look like?

[1] Wall-mounted sensors can detect movement and can even tell the difference between a human and a pet.
[2] Window mounted sensors will trigger if forced open.
[3] Outdoor cameras will detect intruders in a garden or driveway.
[4] Camera doorbells enable you to check a vistitor’s identity before you open the door and will let you keep an eye on packages on your doorstep.
[5] Indoor cameras can be placed near key entry points.

How to install a smart home security system

Installing smart home security systems can be a straightforward process, especially if you choose a DIY-friendly option. Manufacturers should include instructions and guidelines with their systems as the installation process differs depending on your brand and type, and you should read these first.

Generally, however, if you want to do a DIY smart security set-up, the installation for most systems follows these steps:

Plan your system

plan the security system house
(ADT)

Before installing, carefully plan the placement of each component, including the cameras, motion detectors, sensors and central hub. You should consider which areas of your home you want to monitor most closely and the range of the sensors and cameras you have chosen.

Set up the central hub

The central hub, or base station, is the heart of your system and is designed to connect all of your security devices. If possible, place it in a central location within your home, and the manufacturer should provide instructions to connect it to your wifi network.

Install the cameras

install camera 1
(ADT)

The cameras should be installed in positions that cover entry points and high-traffic areas, yet within wifi range of your central hub. Most cameras can be mounted using adhesive strips or screws and, once fixed in place, should be connected to the central hub according to the instructions.

install camera 2
(ADT)

Install the door and window sensors

install door sensor
(ADT)

Make sure the two parts of a door and window sensor align when closed, and then attach the first part of the sensor to the frame and the second to the opening section of the door or window. That way, the sensor can detect when it is opened and alert the home alarm system

Install the motion detectors

motion detector
(ADT)

The motion detectors should be located in areas in which you want to detect movements, such as large rooms and hallways. The manufacturer’s instructions should include the optimum mounting height and angle and how to connect them to the central hub.

Install the smart locks

If your system includes smart locks, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to replace your existing locks with the smart locks. Ensure that your door is compatible with the smart lock you’ve chosen.

Configure your system

configure the system
(ADT)

Once each component is installed, the accompanying mobile app can be used to configure the settings for your security devices, such as motion sensitivity, camera recording preferences, and alert notifications.

Testing your home security system

test the system

Triggering each sensor, checking camera feeds, and testing any other component, will confirm that your system is connected and communicating correctly with the central hub.

Set up monitoring and automation

(ADT)

If your system includes monitoring services or smart home automation features, these can be managed through your mobile app.

Smart alarm systems vs traditional burglar alarm systems

Both traditional and smart alarm systems are designed to protect homes from intruders and other threats; however, they differ in functionality and features.

We’ve compared the features of both systems so that you can decide which one is right for your home.

Can a smart alarm be hacked?

Like any other internet-connected device, smart security systems can be hacked. Their reliance on wifi connectivity for system components, such as motion sensors and cameras, makes their signals vulnerable to interception. Thankfully, even though hacking is possible, it’s not necessarily probable.

In order to breach your particular security system, a hacker must have sufficient knowledge about your technology and its security configurations to select an appropriate method. Additionally, the hacker would require access to your home’s wireless network, necessitating a distinct set of expertise and resources.

However, there are some simple measures you can take to protect your security system from potential hacking attempts. These include:

  • Strong passwords: Use unique, complex passwords for your smart home devices, security system, and wifi network. Regularly update your passwords and avoid using easily guessable information
  • Two-factor authentication: Enable two-factor authentications for your smart home devices and accounts whenever possible. This adds an extra layer of security by requiring a verification code and your password
  • Robust encryption: When choosing the best security system for homes, selecting one with strong encryption prevents your information falling into the wrong hands. Most systems use end-to-end encryption. This is a method of secure communication that stops third parties accessing your data while it’s transferred from one end system to another, eg from your indoor and outdoor security cameras to the home hub. It scrambles your information, turning it into indecipherable code.
  • Regular updates: Ensure your smart home devices, security systems, and routers are up-to-date with the latest software updates. Updates often include security patches that help protect against known vulnerabilities

Home security systems Q&A

Smart home security systems use wifi and wireless technology to connect and communicate among various components, such as cameras, motion detectors, and alarms. These systems, controllable remotely via mobile devices, protect against intruders, fires, and other hazards. UK home security systems can be programmed to respond to specific events, such as opening doors or detecting motion, and often integrate with other smart home features like lighting and heating for enhanced security and automation.

SimpliSafe’s The Tower is our top recommendation for a home security system; the comprehensive system combines outdoor and indoor security cameras, a motion detector, door and window sensors and an integrated keypad for a high level of protection and privacy.

The package from SimpliSafe, and other brands, can be configured to suit your home. Homeowners with large residences and expansive gardens will benefit from more cameras and sensors, while those living in rented accommodation should prioritise DIY systems that cover the areas with the most foot traffic.

Overall, the best home security system will depend on the size of your home, your budget and any requirements you may have. However, you should always opt for a trusted brand, such as SimpliSafe, when purchasing a home security system, to ensure a high level of security and peace of mind.

Most home security systems use a wifi connection, with only a few select brands, such as Reolink, requiring an alternative connection. With that in mind, we found SimpliSafe’s The Tower to be the most effective home security system for those living in an average three-bedroom home.

However, you may find that other brands on this list, such as ADT, Ring, Verisure or Hey!, better cater to your needs, all of which work over wifi.

If you live in rented accommodation, you will want to look for home security systems that offer DIY installation, since you may need to remove and then reinstall the components at the end of your tenancy.

Renters may also want to consider more affordable home security systems or those with fewer components, depending on the size of your residence. SimpliSafe’s The Tower is our top pick overall, but you may find that the Arlo Essential Flat and Apartment Security Kit is better suited for a flat or apartment home.

One of the most affordable brands we have reviewed from this list is Blink. Blink does not offer pre-configured packages, allowing you to create a personalised home security system that best suits your household and budget. Additional gadgets can be purchased when necessary, making this one of the most cost-effective solutions.

If you want a pre-configured home security system, the Hey! Surveillance Kit costs £149.99 and comes with a motion sensor, video doorbell and outdoor camera, with no ongoing monthly subscription fees.

The most important features of a home security system will depend on multiple factors, but generally, you will want an outdoor and indoor security camera. Additional components like a video doorbell, motion sensors, smart lock or alarm can maximise security and allow for a more secure home.

Depending on what you need, the best security cameras will boast features such as two-way talk, night vision, motion detection, a wide field of view and high resolution. The Reolink 4K Ultra HD camera (RLC-810A) ticks many of those boxes, offering detailed video capture and impressive night vision, ideal for monitoring the exterior of your home.

CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television) and home security cameras both capture and record video footage to enhance the security of a location. Their key difference largely comes down to how the video footage is transmitted and accessed.

CCTV systems are typically closed systems where the video feed is transmitted to a specific set of monitors via a direct cable connection, and the footage is recorded. These systems have been around for several decades and are often used in commercial or public settings. Access to the video feed is typically limited to those with physical access.

Modern home security cameras, often called IP or network cameras, transmit footage over the internet. This allows the user to access live or recorded video from anywhere, as long as you have an internet connection. Depending on the product and settings, they may record footage to a cloud server or local storage device.
