Montevallo police say 39 people have been charged in connection with “extensive damage” at Montevallo High School last month.

According to police, 39 individuals at this point have been charged with third degree burglary and first degree criminal mischief.

“This was an unfortunate incident for our community and everyone involved,” police said in a statement on Facebook.

Police were dispatched to the high school on April 27 at about 11:40 p.m. in connection with a “large group of people present” doing damage to the school.

The group dispersed once police arrived, but eight people were arrested and charged with burglary and criminal mischief.

Students transitioned to remote learning the following day and cleanup began.
