Michelle Zauner, the lead vocalist of dreamy pop band Japanese Breakfast, is seeking an actress to play her in a forthcoming feature film. The singer shared an open casting call to social media, seeking the woman who will play her in the adaptation of her hit memoir Crying in H-Mart.

Zauner published the memoir, based on an essay she originally wrote for the New Yorker, in 2021. The book details her experience of losing her mother to pancreatic cancer and the subsequent trips she would make to the Korean grocery store H-Mart, learning to cook Korean food and listening to music records as a means to cope with her grief.

For Zauner’s role in the film, the singer is seeking a Korean American woman between the ages of 18 and 25. Those interested can simply email the film’s team a video introducing themselves.

Will Sharpe, who most recently starred in season two of White Lotus, is set to direct the project. Carmen Cuba, the casting director of Stranger Things, will be handling casting. No other details about the movie have been revealed.
