Louisiana softball can't score, sees season end at Washington in Seattle Super Regional

Chances kept passing Louisiana softball by, and Washington just snatched them from the clutches of momentum Saturday.

Its first handful of moments to seize command of the second game at the Seattle Super Regional against Washington, no one could come through for that timely hit. Not senior Karly Heath, not red-hot freshman Lauren Allred.

While UL pitcher Meghan Schorman kept the Huskies from having many opportunities themselves, they capitalized in the sixth inning when a sacrifice from Madison Huskey plated pinch runner Avery Hobson and Brooklyn Carter stole home with two outs in the seventh to put the Cajuns to bed, 2-0.

Louisiana softball outhit Washington but can't score

It's very difficult to overcome going 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. But that's what UL did.

Getting base hits off Huskies pitcher Lindsay Lopez was not a problem, with UL tallying seven off of her, but the crucial one escaped the Ragin' Cajuns. The Huskies lineup, while it had just four hits, bided its time while UL struggled to score and struck in the sixth.

UL couldn't recover.

Louisiana softball gets gem from senior pitcher Meghan Schorman

If the Cajuns were going to extend their season, Meghan Schorman pitching well was going to have to be where things started. The senior pitcher, tossing with her team's back against the wall, performed well.

She kept Washington from stringing hits together, mixing her three pitchers in throughout the lineup. Not necessarily known as a strikeout pitcher, Schorman fanned three in the first two innings that set the tone for UL. She ended with four strikeouts and allowed three hits.

She orchestrated her outing with efficiency, throwing just 82 pitches in six innings.

Ragin' Cajuns' most important hitters struggle at Seattle Super Regional

The depth coach Gerry Glasco has is well documented. But the two most important hitters in the lineup are Mihyia Davis at the leadoff spot and senior Karly Heath, who provides the consistency and flips the lineup batting in the middle of the order. They struggled to find their rhythm at UW.

Davis failed to reach her first two times up, including a strikeout, before finally reach on a bunt single in the fifth. It was her only hit of the game.

For Heath, she had multiple chances in both games against Washington to bat runs in but couldn't record a key hit to give the Cajuns control. She led off the bottom of the sixth with a hit.
