COLORADO-VANCOUVER CONNECTIONS

Tyson Jost
played two-plus seasons in the British Columbia Hockey League with the Penticton Vees (2014-2016) and spent three years in Kelowna at the Pursuit of Excellence Academy and Okanagan Rockets. Jost and Vancouver forward Brock Boeser were teammates at the University of North Dakota in 2016-17…
J.T. Compher
and Canucks forward Tyler Motte played together at the University of Michigan from 2013-2016… Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic is from Burnaby.
HISTORY
After their previous win, Colorado now maintains a 77-64-11 record against Vancouver all-time. The Avs will face the Canucks once more this season on March 23. Their third and final matchup will take place in Denver.
ROSTER REPORT
The Avs recently claimed forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel on waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers. Aube-Kubel has totaled 10 goals and 118 assists in 102 career NHL contests with the Flyers, the team that selected him in the second round in the 2014 NHL Draft. He participated in practice and will provide depth to a currently injured Avalanche front line.
In J.T. Compher's absence, Logan O'Connor skated on the top line at practice. Mikko Rantanen was moved to center.
INJURY REPORT
Nathan MacKinnon remains out for three weeks due to a lower body injury. J.T. Compher is expected to miss a month due to an upper body injury. Rookie Bowen Byram is currently in protocol and, given his history with concussions, will rejoin the group when he feels he is ready. Martin Kaut continues to be evaluated on a week-to-week basis, suffering an upper body injury. Stefan Matteau continues to be out for weeks rehabbing a lower-body injury he suffered on Oct. 16th. Pavel Francouz is still operating on a week-to-week basis.
SCOUTING THE CANUCKS
The Canucks are returning from their three-game road trip without a win. Vancouver will look to snap a four-game losing streak at home against the Avs. Looking forward, the Canucks will face the Winnipeg Jets and the Chicago Blackhawks as the following two legs of their three-game homestand.
Since last facing Colorado, Vancouver stood at 19th in the league on power play percentage and 31st in penalty kill. Following their road trip, they now operate at 24th in power play (15.3%) and 32nd in penalty kill (62.3%).
(OPPOSING) PLAYER TO WATCH: Nils Hoglander
Nils Hoglander has scored four goals and one assist in the past three road contests for the Canucks. He was responsible for Vancouver's sole goal in their matchup against the Avs last week. He is currently tied for fifth in points scored on the Vancouver roster.
NUMBERS GAME
3
A win in Vancouver would place the Avs on a three-game winning streak. This would be their longest winning streak of the season so far.

1
Logan O'Connor scored the first shorthanded goal of his career against the Sharks on Saturday.
