STURGIS - The Sturgis branch of KeyBank, a longtime financial institution in town, will close permanently Aug. 11.

The bank's doors will be locked at 3 p.m. Aug. 11, while the ATM will cease operations at 8 a.m. the same day. Sturgis KeyBank customers are being directed to the branch in Bristol, Indiana, for continued service, according to a posting at the Sturgis branch. Bristol is approximately 25 miles from the southern St. Joseph County city.

As of May 26, there are 15 KeyBank locations in Michigan, with all but Sturgis located in southeastern Michigan and the greater Metro Detroit area. KeyBank has been consolidating branches across the state for several years as more patrons opt for digital banking, according to previous news releases.

An inquiry sent to KeyBank for more information about the Sturgis branch's impending closing was not immediately returned. The property is owned by Sturgis Regency LLC, the complex which owns the adjacent Sturgis Plaza.
