Editor’s Note: After publication, the producer of the Go Karting on Ice event said in an email that the event had been “rescheduled due to circumstances beyond my control.” As of press time, a future date has yet to be announced.

Rev up your engines and get ready to take part in one of the coolest races around.

Go Karting on Ice, a competitive go-kart race set inside an ice rink, returns to Panorama City for Memorial Day weekend on May 26-28.

And don’t worry if you’re a terrible driver, because for this race you don’t even need a driver’s license. The only requirement to speed your way to glory is that racers must be at least 14 years old to drive a single-rider go-kart around the track.

“This is just a great event — it’s so much fun and so much adrenaline,” said Guido Pacheco, the general manager of the LA Kings Valley Ice Centre, which is hosting the race.

“It’s a great family event — people really seem to enjoy it a lot. It’s a good time,” Pacheco said.

The oval track is sectioned off with cones, and music plays in the background while a light show adds to the atmosphere as a total of eight go-karts race around the track at a time.

“It’s all kind of got a bit of a club look to it,” Pacheco added.

Each race lasts about 12 minutes and besides bragging rights for winners, there are also prizes given out for best dressed, so guests are encouraged to come in costumes and other fun, themed outfits.

Since it’s on ice, there will be some drifting, but drivers won’t be spinning out of control in circles and slamming up against walls because the ice is specially prepared to give these go-karts a bit more traction.

“They will slide a little bit, but not as much as if it was regular ice,” Pacheco said.

This is the third time the venue has hosted the ice race.
