A group of Syracuse high school students got real-world experience on a movie set, and now they’re ready to share it with the world.
“Don’t Look,” a short film made by CNY Film Professionals with 15 students from the Syracuse City School District, will premiere on the big screen Saturday, June 10, at the Landmark Theater. It’s the first production by participants in Call Time, a new program for aspiring filmmakers, industry professionals and local educators.
Admission to the premiere event is free, but RSVP is required at www.calltime.studio.
Doors open at 6 p.m. for the event, which includes a screening of “Don’t Look,” a graduation ceremony for the students, film expert exhibits, red carpet photo ops, a panel discussion with film professionals, and sign-ups to join the next Call Time session.
According to a press release, Call Time is a 12-week training program developed by CNY Film Professionals (501c3) for SCSD students to learn about the industry. The program culminated with apprenticeship opportunities on a professional short film, based on a story developed by the students working with a 35-person film crew.
“Learning from experts on a professional film set is the only tried-and-true way to become qualified to work in the film industry,” said Elias Gwinn, President of CNY Film Professionals. “Call Time gave them that immersive experience, while including them in the creative direction as well.”
