Kate Middleton's Brother Says Her Kids Are "Lucky" to Grow Up with a Dog

Kate Middleton's brother James is happy his niece and nephews are growing up with a dog.

In a new interview with OK! Magazine, James said, "I'm really pleased that they are able to enjoy and have the benefit of a dog in their lives. I see them being lucky that they have a dog in their life."

The Middleton siblings didn't have a dog until James was a teenager, when they got a golden retriever named Tilly. "I found a lot of solace in my dog, Tilly, particularly when I was a young teenager. She knew all of my secrets at the time – who I fancied and all of those little tricky parts that come with growing up that I never told anybody," James said.

The Prince and Princess of Wales currently have a dog named Orla, their second dog, who they brought home shortly before their first dog, Lupo, passed away in 2020. Orla is Lupo's niece, bred by James. "Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away. He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much," the royal couple wrote at the time, signing the post "W & C."

James, too, commented on Lupo's passing. "It is with great sadness that Lupo, the beloved dog of my sister Catherine and her family has passed away," James wrote at the time. "Lupo was the son of Ella, brother to Zulu, Inka & Luna. He was 9 years old. Nothing can ever prepare you for the loss of a dog. For those who have never had a dog, it might be hard to understand the loss. However for those who have loved a dog know the truth: a dog is not just a pet; it is a member of the family, a best friend, a loyal companion, a teacher and a therapist."
