2024 Toyota Tacoma: Everything We Know So Far
Toyota is expected to reveal an all-new Tacoma pickup sometime in May 2023. Leading up to the launch, the Japanese automaker has dropped a handful of teasers to drum up hype for the highly desirable mid-size truck. Here's what we know so far.
There Will Be a Manual Transmission Option
Much to everyone's surprise, Toyota confirmed on May 2 the 2024 Tacoma will be available with a manual transmission. At a time when every automaker is abandoning the stick shift, this is a major win for enthusiasts and a decision that makes us even more excited to drive the truck.
It Will Have an Optional i-Force Max Hybrid Powertrain
Toyota plans for its entire lineup to be hybridized or electric by 2025. The automaker confirmed on April 4 it will offer a version of its i-Force Max Hybrid Powertrain—currently available on cars like the Tundra and Sequoia—on the Tacoma. It's unclear the twin-turbo V-6 will make it to the smaller platform. With 583 lb-ft of torque available, we hope it does.

It Will Ride on the Tundra's Platform
Toyota said on April 4 the 2024 Tacoma will be based on the bigger Tundra's platform (shown above). That should mean improved the noise, vibration, and harshness, along with better efficiency and crash safety protection.
It Will Get an Overlanding-Oriented Trailhunter Trim
Toyota revealed April 11 that the 2024 Tacoma will receive an off-road-focused trim called the Trailhunter. The company said in a statement the trim will "build upon Toyota's legendary off-road and overlanding credibility with purpose-built engineering and robust components."

The TRD Pro Will Get Disc Brakes and Racy Suspension
Toyota released two teaser pictures on Instagram on April 20 showing close-up shots of the upcoming 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro, showing off the truck's rear disc brakes (a first for Tacoma) and the race-ready Fox suspension.
It Will Come With an Optional Detachable Speaker
Toyota revealed on April 25 the 2024 Tacoma will be available with a removable, portable JBL Flex Bluetooth speaker. The company released one image alongside the announcement, giving us a small look at the Tacoma's bed.
Here It Is Testing on the Road
While Toyota has yet to show off the new Tacoma's design, The Fast Lane Now YouTube channel caught a heavily camouflaged prototype testing on the road back in 2022. The spy video gives us a good idea of what to expect in terms of sizing for the new mid-size pickup.
