NYC Starbucks, Amazon Patrons File Suit Over Biometric Scans (1)

New York City customers of Amazon.com Inc. and Starbucks Corp. have joined forces to refile previous claims that the companies violated a local biometric surveillance law in a proposed class action—this time on the other side of the country.

The three plaintiffs claim that both companies used Amazon’s cashierless palm-scanning technology in retail stores without posting proper notices that biometric data was being collected as required by city’s 2021 Biometric Identifier Information Law, according to the complaint filed Wednesday in Washington state federal court.
