A suspect in the murder of a 19-year-old shot last year in Seattle’s lawless autonomous zone was arrested in Iowa on Monday, according to a report.
Marcel Long, 19, was arrested in Des Moines by US marshals and charged with first-degree murder in the June 20, 2020, shooting death of Horace Lorenzo Anderson Jr. just outside the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest zone, according to a report by Q13 Fox.
Long was later transferred to Seattle police — who had a $2 million arrest warrant against him.
“We are committed to ensuring that dangerous fugitives are brought before the court,” Chief Deputy US Marshal Richard Craig said in a statement. “It is my sincere hope that this arrest brings some sense of calm to the community.”
Anderson and Long had apparently feuded since 2019 following a fight that Anderson lost — which landed on YouTube, according to a criminal complaint.
In May, Anderson’s family filed a notice of claim, a precursor to a lawsuit, alleging that paramedics left the special-needs teen to die near the seven-block “autonomous” area that formed amid Black Lives Matter protests after the police murder of George Floyd in Minnesota.
The fire department previously said they couldn’t respond because it was too dangerous to enter without a police escort, which didn’t come until roughly 20 minutes after Anderson was shot.
Evan Oshan, a lawyer for Anderson’s estate and for his father, Horace Anderson, told The Post in a statement, “We applaud the US Marshals who came through and captured the suspect.”
“We are committed to achieve the justice Lorenzo deserves,” Oshan said. “Lorenzo would have still been alive today if everyone just did their job and protected the public safety.
“Through our legal actions Lorenzo’s death will be a referendum for change bringing safety back to the streets of Seattle and Washington!”
