ROCKVILLE, MD — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Montgomery County has grown by 111 since Wednesday, according to Maryland health officials, bringing its total to 18,752.

In that same time span, one more person has died from COVID-19 — the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus — pushing the local fatality count to 768. Another 39 people, health officials say, may have died from the virus, but a laboratory test is still needed to confirm the cause of death.

The county continues to have the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 24,301, according to the latest figures.

Statewide, there have been 98,160 confirmed cases, 3,483 deaths, and 137 "confirmed deaths."

Of the 470 people currently hospitalized, 111 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
