JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A lowcountry couple is set to make their national debut on the National Geographic Channel television show "Doomsday Preppers."

David and Lauren Appleton say they're well-prepared for any natural disaster that may strike Charleston.

"[Hurricane] Hugo was 1989 and the folks went without power for three weeks," David says.  "If that were to happen tomorrow - what would happen?"

The Appletons keep storage bins filled with emergency supplies and freeze-dried food inside their home.  They also have "bug-out bags" which contain enough supplies for two people to survive for 72 hours.  The pair also grows much of their own produce and even built a greenhouse to support out-of-season plants.

The National Geographic Channel filmed the Appletons for two days this past winter.  Their episode of "Doomsday Preppers" will air Tuesday night at 9pm.
