Male Driver Pronounced Dead after Two-Vehicle Crash near Rahilly Road
MERCED, CA (January 16, 2024) – One man suffered fatal injuries Tuesday morning in a head-on crash on State Route 59.
Officers responded to the scene at approximately 10:47 a.m., near Rahilly Road.
Reports indicate that the driver of a 2019 Jeep SUV heading south drifted into oncoming lanes, resulting in a head-on collision with a 2020 Freight Line box-truck.
The 20-year-old Atwater man behind the wheel of the Jeep suffered fatal injuries and passed away at the scene. However, his identity has not been disclosed to the public. In addition, the 54-year-old driver of the box-truck from Fresno was unharmed.
Authorities do not suspect the involvement of drugs or alcohol in the incident. An ongoing investigation is in progress to gather additional information.
