Jamieson Labs reaches tentative agreement for second time

After an initial tentative agreement was rejected last month, the Unifor Local 195 bargaining team announced on Saturday evening it has negotiated a new deal with Jamieson Laboratories in Windsor.
A ratification meeting is slated for March 5 for the membership to vote on the deal.
The primary concerns of Local 195 — the union representing 317 members at Jamieson Laboratories — centered on wages and benefits, including some apprehensions about the current workload.
Unifor Local 195 president Emile Nabbout told the Star last month that under the expired agreement, non-skilled production workers earned an average of $27 per hour. Skilled trades earned an average of $35.50 per hour.
The union represents 296 full-time employees and 21 part-timers.
Operating as a subsidiary of Jamieson Wellness Inc., the local plant manufactures and packages vitamins distributed to both domestic and global markets.
Members of Local 195 joined the picket line on Feb. 1 to press the employer to improve the contract.
Another tentative agreement was struck between the parties on Feb, 23. However, it was swiftly rejected by 67 per cent of the membership during a ratification meeting held days later at the Caboto Club.
The union noted in the same statement Saturday that details regarding the new deal will not be shared at this time.
