SAN RAMON, Calif. (KRON) — A family in San Ramon is recovering from a fire that burned out their home. Flames gutted the house which was not insured.

Lynn Macedo and her daughter Maddie say the past week has been surreal. Their family has been living with the neighbors next door since their home caught fire Saturday night.

“I’m just struggling. Trying to get through day-by-day,” said Lynn Macedo.

An electrical malfunction caused a spark, eventually shooting flames throughout the house,
destroying the interior.

“It sucks, but I mean, we’ll see what happens,” said Maddie Macedo.

On the positive side, the family of four and their three dogs are all alive. But Lynn says her husband has lived in this home his entire life. They renovated the place themselves.

Lynn lost her wedding ring in the fire as well as both her and husband’s cellphones, which they left behind.

“I’m grateful that our family’s here,” said Lynn. “And, I don’t want to seem like I’m just like a petty person, but those material things to us mean something and we want them. But now they’re gone.”

Making matters worse, the home is not insured. Everything lost is gone. A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family recover.

“All of our neighbors have been, like, extremely gracious,” said Lynn. “They’ve been giving us whatever we need, and they’ve been wonderful.”

The Macedoes say it is too soon to say whether or not they intend move back into the home after the rebuild. Right now, they’re focusing on themselves.

“Everything is just material and it can get replaced,” said Maddie. “It’s not that big of a deal. But anything that helps us get off our feet from literally zero is very much appreciated.”
