MARIANNA, Ark. — A two-year-old is in the hospital after he was shot in the head Sunday while playing near an apartment complex in Marianna, Arkansas.

Legend Tillman was shot while in the courtyard of the Marianna Public Housing Authority Complex, his uncle Danny Jordan said.

The toddler was shot during an altercation between two people in the 200 block of Sealand Street around 4:30 in the afternoon, Arkansas State Police said.

He is currently in critical condition at a Memphis hospital.

A juvenile was taken into custody and booked into the Lee County Jail on Monday morning, state police said.

Authorities are still looking for a 22-year-old identified as a suspect by investigators.

“I feel like for somebody to shoot him and just run and not even…that was wrong,” Jordan said. Some people were hidden behind some garbage cans in the woods, came through the court behind here, and got to shooting at somebody when kids were out here.”

Jordan says about twenty kids were playing when shots were fired, but young Legend was the only victim and got shot in the head.

“The bullet went in the back and came out the side,” Jordan said.

Arkansas State Police are handling the investigation and members of the Criminal Investigative Division examined bullet holes and are looking for more evidence.

Another resident who lives in the apartment complex says she was inside braiding hair when she heard several gunshots ring out. She said those bullets also hit her apartment.

“It was very scary,” she said. “All I seen was blood from over there on the ground and that was too much. I was very scared.”
