Late Lynyrd Skynyrd Guitarist’s Georgia Home Lists For $12 Million

Following

The Georgia estate of the late Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington recently hit the market for $12 million.

The 80-acre Georgia estate is located in Milton, nearly 30 miles north of Atlanta. Rossington, who was a founding member of the rock band best known for its hit song “Sweet Home Alabama” first purchased the land in 1997 with his wife of 41 years, Dale. According to WSJ, the couple purchased a seven-acre parcel of land in 1997 for $1 million. Over time, they continued acquiring lush surrounding parcels to build up to the current-day 80-acre piece of land.

Listed for $12 million, the property includes a 7,500-square-foot main residence with five bedrooms and six bathrooms, as well as a guest house, two barns and a private lake. You enter the home through a beautiful two-story entry foyer. The home has a traditional refined Southern design with hardwood floors and millwork. There’s a formal dining room and study on either side of the entry foyer. As you continue inside, you’re led to an oversized great room with a fireplace and double-height ceilings.

Rossington had a collection of nearly 65 guitars, which were placed around the house as decor in the study and living room. The artworks found throughout are mementos of his time as a musician. The entirety of the Lynyrd Skynyrd memorabilia was relocated to a forthcoming museum.

The home is filled with natural light thanks to large windows and French doors. From the living room, a set of French doors connects to a covered back patio with views of the forest. The main level also houses a kitchen, outfitted with mahogany cabinetry and an eat-in island, and a bright, light-filled breakfast nook with vaulted ceilings.

The primary suite is found on the main level and features another light-filled sitting area, a sumptuous bathroom. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms—one ensuite bedroom and two that share a Jack and Jill bathroom. The fifth bedroom is an au pair suite situated above the two-car garage. The completely finished lower level was designed for entertaining and has a built-in wet bar, game area and fireplace. From here, double doors lead to the back terrace for easy access to and from the pool area. There are many terraces and patio spaces around the home to enjoy the outdoors.

Outside, there is an in-ground swimming pool and deck and ample lawn space. Nearby is the two-story guest house with four additional bedrooms and three bathrooms, which rivals the size of the main residence. There’s also a seven-acre private lake that backs both the main house and guest house, where the musician would fish nearly every day, with two docks for storing smaller boats and water toys.

The land is filled with lush forest, access to nature and wildlife, and recreational space that ensures room for outdoor pursuits. The privacy is unmatched in the area, ideal for buyers seeking seclusion and tranquility among the rural nature of Milton, Georgia.

The home is listed with Cynthia Chandlee of Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty.
