Catalina "Katy" Acevedo Jimenez, 88, of Mesa, Ariz., passed away on February 15, 2024, after a brief battle with lung cancer.
Katy was born on April 30, 1935, to Librado and Isabel Acevedo in Phoenix, Ariz. After Katy graduated from Phoenix Union High School, she worked at Valley National Bank as an interpreter.
She married Angel Ayala Jimenez on April 22, 1961, and had five children, Kathleen, Teresa, Michele (who passed away at 9 mo.), Angel Jr., and Mary Jo.
After raising her children, Katy worked for Mesa Public Schools as an ESL technician and took pride in helping her students acquire English.
After she retired, Katy liked to knit, crochet, and craft photo albums and scrapbooks.
Katy was devout in her Catholic faith. She was also a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother.
Katy was predeceased by her parents, her two brothers, a sister, and her daughter, Michele. She is survived by her husband, her sister, Emily, her children, Kathleen, Teresa, Angel and Mary Jo, her seven grandchildren, Elijah, Maximilian, Sebastian, Olivia, Isabel, Yvette and Kingston, and her four great-grandchildren, Lily, Wesley, Sophie and Miles.
A vigil and rosary will be held Monday, February 26, 2024 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Queen of Heaven Mortuary in Mesa. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mesa. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the Valley.
