(BRECKENRIDGE, Colo.) — The mountains start in silence. Soon, faintly in the distance, their breathing echoes. In a rapid whirl, their sleigh pulls ahead.

The Siberian Huskies pull a sled on the campus of Goodtimes Adventures in Breckenridge.

“Dogsledding is a very unique experience,” Brian Holt, the owner of Goodtimes Adventures said. “It’s a bucket list kind of thing.”

Swirling through the backwoods of Swan River Valley, just shy of 160 dogs run.

“Our dogs will do anywhere between 10 and 15 miles per day,” Sarah Spalla, the kennel manager said. “Which sounds like a lot of us humans, but for these guys it’s a walk in the park.”

“They show up every single day excited to run,” she said of the canine crew, “and that gets pretty contagious for the rest of us.”

After every run, the dogs take a few hours for a nap after scarfing down on a soup made of meat donated by local restaurants.

“We feed really high energy, high protein dog food because our dogs are professional athletes,” Spalla noted. “They need all that extra fat and calories to keep in good condition.”

Goodtimes Adventures does book out several weeks in advance, guests are advised to plan accordingly.
