Shawnee Co. teen arrested for potential school threats

SHAWNEE COUNTY (KSNT) – One teen has been arrested for felony crimes after potential threats were made to Washburn Rural High School.

According to a news release from the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, a 16-year-old has been arrested for two felony crimes after an investigation found potential threats made at the school Friday, Feb 23.

Just before 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, a Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office deputy/school resource officer received information about a potential threat to the high school. An investigation found a student allegedly used his school computer to search for firearms. He also made threatening comments about bringing a firearm to school, according to the news release.

Monday, Feb. 26 at 9:50 a.m., the 16-year-old was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections for criminal threat and interference with law enforcement.

This incident is under investigation by the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office.
