Political parties not represented in Parliament invited to collate in finding solutions for ongoing economic crisis

The Sectoral Oversight Committee on Alleviating the Impact of the Economic Crisis invited the registered political parties not represented in Parliament to collate in finding solutions to the challenges faced by different sectors impacted by the ongoing economic crisis.

This invitation was extended when the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Alleviating the Impact of the Economic Crisis met in Parliament recently (06) under the Chairmanship of Member of Parliament Hon. Gamini Waleboda.

Accordingly, time was allotted to each registered political party not represented in Parliament to present suggestions and proposals by their respective parties. Accordingly, given the context where an average person finds it hard to even purchase essentials, a ration mechanism together with Sathosa to provide essential food items, looking into implementing a more people friendly tax mechanism, focusing on supporting SMEs and domestic production, allocating more funds to improve domestic agriculture as opposed to importing were among proposals and solutions presented.

Moreover, the party representatives stated that a main reason for the downfall of the countrys economy is the inefficiency of public service. Moreover, the representatives were of the view that as a nation rich in culture, co-existence and diverse ethnicities, a well-recognized health sector Sri Lanka as a nation does not promote such strength of the country to develop tourism.

The Committee Chair requested the representatives to submit their proposals and join hands in forming a common plan containing solutions to the challenges faced by different sectors impacted by the ongoing economic crisis.

Members of Parliament Sahan Pradeep Withana, (Dr.) Gayashan Nawananda, Manjula Disanayake, Nimal Piyathissa, B. Y. G. Rathnasekara,Seyed Ali Zahir Moulana, Mohomad Muzammil and Udayana Kirindigoda participated at the meeting.
