EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Round of applause for these young scientists!

The Texas Science and Engineering Fair took place at Texas A&M University on Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23.

YISD Valle Verde Early College High School senior Victoria Mascorro took first place in the Engineering Technology: Statics and Dynamics category with her project called ‘Exploring Eutectic Alloys in Microgravity: Advancing Space-Based Manufacturing through Controlled Freezing”.

According to YISD, Mascorro is among the 12 students from the state fair who will compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles in May.

Mascorro was also awarded $750 from Exxon Mobile and got an invitation to the Governor’s Science and Technology Champions Academy summer camp, according to YISD.

Riverside Middle Schooler Allison Cuellar also competed at the fair. Her project, ‘How Can the Use of Spherification with Medication Help People with Physical Disabilities?’, won third place in the junior division.
