'Incredible' Snowfall During Colorado Storm Captured in Photos, Videos

Photos and videos of the "incredible" snowfall during a late-winter storm in Colorado have flooded social media.

Denver is experiencing its "biggest snowstorm of the season" as it threatens to drop up to 15 inches on the city by Friday. The storm system also plunged temperatures in the central Colorado region to 37 degrees by Thursday, about 15 degrees below normal for this time of year.

By midday Thursday, the storm's impact was significant.

"Check out this incredible video of 3+ feet of snow in Evergreen, Colorado from Josh! Spring upslope dumper with tornadoes in the plains," extreme storm chaser Reed Timmer posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday.

"Good morning from Aspen Park, Colorado. Our quest for 36" is going well. Almost half way there either 24 more hours of snow ahead," user @CreppWx posted with a video of the heavy snow falling on a patio.

Driving conditions also were hazardous, and people shouldn't venture out unless necessary, National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologist Paul Schlatter told Newsweek.

"Check out the driving conditions along Highway 24 in Cascade, Colorado where close to 20 inches of snow has fallen!!" user @COStormChasers posted with a video taken from inside a car trying to navigate the roads in the heavy snow.

Snow was heavy enough to cause some motorists to become stranded and resort to trekking across the highway on foot.

"Whoa, I just spotted some stranded motorist walking across the Highway as I-70 in #Colorado closes from Heavy #Snow," user @BirdingPeepWx posted on X with a video of people attempting to walk across the highway. "I really hope they get to where they're going safely."

The snowstorm closed Interstate 70 in both directions this morning.

"I-70 just West of Denver is CLOSED in both directions this morning and drivers are stranded on the roadways," @WeatherNation posted with a video of stranded vehicles along the road. "Another 14-26" of snow is possible through tomorrow morning for the foothills."

According to a snowfall forecast map by NWS, Evergreen is expected to receive the most, up to 37 inches. Red Feather Lakes follows, with up to 35 inches; Castle Rock could see up to 26 inches; and Estes Park and Lake George could both get 24 inches.

At least 6 to 10 inches of snow has already fallen in central Denver, with more falling in the western and southern suburbs, according to Schlatter.

The heaviest snow will end by midnight, with light snowfall expected through Friday morning.
