NASA’s Hubble telescope captures image of the ‘Spider Galaxy’

.

NASA released an image captured by the Hubble Space Telescope of the “Spider Galaxy” millions of light-years away from Earth.

The galaxy, UGC 5829, received its nickname from the space agency because of its distinct features.

“Despite the lack of observations of this relatively faint galaxy, UGC 5829 has a distinct and descriptive name: the Spider Galaxy. Perhaps its distorted galactic arms with their glowing, star-forming tips hint at the clawed legs of an arachnid,” NASA said in a blog post on Friday.

The space agency said the image was captured using two of the telescope’s observing programs: the Advanced Camera for Surveys and the Wide Field Camera 3.

NASA launched the Hubble Space Telescope into space in 1990 and has been capturing images of the vast depths of space for more than three decades while also adding to scientists’ understanding of the cosmos.

Hundreds of images have been released from the Hubble telescope in the decades since it was launched.

Alongside the Hubble Space Telescope, NASA also releases images captured by the James Webb Space Telescope, which was launched in 2021 and has more advanced technology. The Webb telescope has had images released since July 2022.
