AUSTIN (KXAN) — A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in downtown Austin Wednesday morning, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.

ATCEMS said medics took an adult patient to the hospital with critical life-threatening injuries.

First responders arrived at the scene near Interstate 35 and Cesar Chavez Street at approximately 10:10 a.m.

ATCEMS said to expect traffic delays in the area and to avoid the area if possible.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, all lanes of Southbound I-35 at Cesar Chavez Street were closed due to the crash, and traffic was being diverted to the frontage road.

The Austin Police Department said drivers should exit at 234B or before exit 233.
