Texas Tech advances to second round of Big 12 women's basketball tournament

The Texas Tech women's basketball team moved into the second round of the Big 12 Tournament with a 74-60 win over Houston on Thursday in the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

The 12th-seeded Lady Raiders (17-15) snapped their nine-game losing streak by handling the 13th-seeded Cougars, who they defeated twice in the regular season. Texas Tech will now take on fifth-seeded Baylor Friday at 11 a.m. in a game that will stream on ESPN+.

Jasmine Shavers had a standout day offensively, finishing with a game-high 29 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field, hitting four of her eight 3-point attempts. She added six rebounds.

Jordyn Merritt provided a 15-point, nine-rebound performance to complement Shavers' game. Jada Wynn added nine points and eight rebounds and Bailey Maupin 10 points, though she was just 1-of-7 from 3.

Peyton McFarland had 14 points and Britney Onyeje 12 for Houston.
