WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – West Hartford Police say a fugitive was arrested Thursday during an uncooperative traffic stop where he was found with various narcotics in his vehicle.

Michael Martin, 42, of East Hartford was charged as a Fugitive from Justice due the extraditable felony warrant from Massachusetts. He’s also facing charges from Thursday’s incident.

Around 2:14 p.m., police recognized a vehicle registered to someone with an active extraditable felony warrant out of Massachusetts.

The driver- Martin- refused to stop for police lights while entering an I-84 east ramp, but police said officers successfully deployed tire deflation devices and flatten three of his tires- forcing a stop near Sisson Avenue on I-84 east.

Police said Martin had to be forcibly removed from the vehicle after failing to comply with orders to exit.

Narcotics and drug packaging/equipment were seized from the vehicle, including powder cocaine, “crack” cocaine, and heroin, according to police.

The charges on the extraditable warrant included Assault and Battery on a Police Officer; Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon; Assault with a Dangerous Weapon; Failure to Stop for the Police; and Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

The charges from Thursday’s incident include Possession with Intent to Sell Narcotics Subsequent Offense, Possession of a Controlled Substance Second Offense, Interfering with an Officer, Engaging Police in Pursuit, Reckless Driving, Illegal Tint, and Failure to Wear Seat Belt.

He was given a $500,000 surety bond for the extraditable warrant and a $250,000 cash or surety bond on charges based on Thursday’s incident, pending arraignment and extradition in Hartford.
